Class began with the course film list followed by a discussion of class favorites. We reviewed one way versus two way communication and the nature of media construction.
We followed this with a reading of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's short story An Old Man With Enormous Wings. We then broke into groups to begin working on film pitches for an adaptation of the story for the big screen.
9.9.08 Tuesday
We traveled to the computer lab for our first glimpse of the reading media wiki. Good times. When we returned to the classroom, we continued work on the "Old Man With Enormous Wings" film pitches.
9.10.08 Wednesday
Today we learned how to post images and make links on the Wikispace. We also continued work on the pitch projects.
9.11.08
Mr. Masson assigned the Coat of Arms project. It is due next Friday. Remember to keep it small so we can scan it easily.
We then finished up presentation/pitch plans for An Old Man With Enormous Wings. Presentations begin tomorrow.
9.12.08
Film Pitch presentations:
Cassidy, James, and Matt go in a dark direction, ending their adaptation with the protagonist Ophelia standing on the beach as a single poignant tear roles down her cheek, brokenhearted that her angel has fled. The audience meanwhile, is left questioning their faith in humanity as Ophelia turns away from the fleeing angel to return to abusive home life. Sigh.
Alexis, Zach, Antonio, and Dean tab Hollywood favorite Morgan Freeman as the angel, suggesting that anyone who has ever stared deeply into the star's mesmerizing eyes would understand their casting decision completely.
Keri, Raya, and Amber go in a different, slightly bizarre, direction altogether. Their version introduces a kidnapping subplot and casts the title role as an avenging angel with an attitude, fascinating.
